Videostroboscopy in Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Disorder

چکیده
Introduction: Acid reflux disease of the larynx has been established as a separate clinical entity in the present day, requiring the nuances of a skilled laryngologist for its early diagnosis and appropriate management. Clinical presentations of laryngopharyngeal reflux disorder may vary from very subtle to mammoth proportions, ranging across a panorama of features like chronic laryngitis, indolent laryngeal ulcers or granulomas, onto life-threatening glottic/sub-glottic stenosis and laryngeal malignancies very rarely. With the advent of videostroboscopy, laryngologists have now acquired a ‘cutting-edge’ sensitive tool to look into the intricacies of the larynx and thereby study the pathological effects of laryngopharyngeal reflux in great detail. Objective: To assess the efficacy of videostroboscopy with voice analysis, as a diagnostic and prognostic tool in a cohort of patients with laryngopharyngeal reflux disorder. Study method: This prospective study was conducted over a two-year period, among 50 patients with hoarseness of voice and features of reflux laryngitis, who underwent videostroboscopy with voice analysis at initial diagnosis and at routine follow-up, to objectively study the response and outcome of anti-reflux therapy on the larynx. Observation and result: Videostroboscopy provided a vivid picture of the changes in larynx due to chronic acid reflux and proved efficacious in precisely judging the treatment responses. Conclusion: Our study reflects the recent concept highlighted in world literature that videostroboscopy is an ideal, sensitive tool for early diagnosis and in prognosis of acid induced laryngeal disorder.

Role of PH Monitoring in Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Patients with Voice Disorders
Introduction: Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is considered an important cause of voice disorder. We aimed to determine the frequency of LPR in patients with voice disorder and the association between Koufman Reflux Symptom Index (RSI), Reflux Finding Score (RFS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and proximal acid reflux in these patients. Materials and Methods: We performed a prospective...

BACKGROUND Compressive symptoms are common in patients with thyroid disease and are an accepted indication for thyroidectomy. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and severity of voice and swallowing complaints in pre-operative thyroidectomy patients and to compare these with thyroid volume, thyroid pathology and laryngopharyngeal reflux. METHODS A consecutive case serie...

OBJECTIVE To describe normal vocal fold vibratory characteristics recorded with high-speed digital imaging (HSV) of the larynx. DESIGN Prospective study of healthy subjects who volunteered to undergo laryngeal HSV and videostroboscopy. Image analysis was randomly assigned to 3 blinded raters. متن کاملSignificance of the pepsin from the saliva in the diagnosis and treatment of laryngopharyngeal reflux disease.
Etiopathogenesis of the laryngopharyngeal reflux has not been sufficiently clarified. It is believed that damage to the lining of laryngopharynx in laryngopharyngeal disease occurs in the use of acid and pepsin. The diagnosis of reflux acidic 24-hour Dual probe pH-metry is considered the gold standard. However, since the laryngopharyngeal reflux is often non-acidic new diagnostic methods are be...
متن کاملRelationship between Depression and Laryngopharyngeal Reflux
This study investigated the relationship between depression, somatization, anxiety, personality, and laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR). We prospectively analyzed 231 patients with symptoms with LPR using the laryngopharyngeal reflux symptom index and the reflux finding score. Seventy nine (34.2%) patients were diagnosed with LPR. A significant correlation was detected between the presence of LPR a...
